About Me
Way back in 2010, Mary Pipher's book “Writing to Change the World” inspired me to quit my nonprofit 9-to-5 and start writing full time.
I wanted to tell underreported stories of artists and activists, social innovators and industry disruptors — and, especially, Black and brown folks like me.
Since then, I’ve written about everything from ethical guitar manufacturing in Cameroon to strategies for confronting everyday racism, a New York Times service piece that went viral. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with like-minded clients on diversity-led content and nonprofit projects.
Other career highlights include: winning three ASJA awards, publishing my habichuelas guisadas recipe in The Washington Post and getting dragged on Reddit for a StarTrek.com piece where I called out Admiral Jean Luc Picard's privilege. (My portfolio is nothing if not eclectic.)
When I'm not busy writing, I can be found knitting and binge-watching period dramas with my two tabby cats or exploring the backstreets of Istanbul.
